About Dafo Temple (Zhangye)

Located in Zhangye, Gansu, this ancient temple is renowned for its enormous indoor reclining Buddha, one of the largest of its kind in China. The wooden statue sleeps peacefully within a vast hall, flanked by intricate Buddhist wall paintings.

Travel Tips

Zhangye spans a wide latitude range, so the climate differs notably between north and south. The north is hot in summer, bitterly cold in winter, with large day-night temperature swings and dry, rainless weather. Bring sunglasses, a hat, and other sun protection, plus a warm jacket for the cold mornings and evenings.
