About Jinyintan–Atomic City Tourism Area

A historic site on the golden grasslands of Haibei, Qinghai, where China's first nuclear research base was built in the 1950s. Today the decommissioned 'Atomic City' opens its memorial halls, underground command post and test facilities to visitors.

Highlights

• China's first nuclear-weapons R&D base (Factory 221), now a red-tourism site. • Memorial hall, bomb-test ground, underground command, and launch station. • Golden-steppe grassland where 'In That Far Place' was written.

Suggested Route

Atomic City Memorial Hall → bomb-test ground → underground command → launch (Shangxing) station; allow half a day.
