About National Botanical Garden (Beijing)

A vast botanical garden at the foot of the Western Hills in Beijing, uniting northern and southern plant collections with a tropical conservatory, seasonal blooms and a historic temple.

Highlights

• Vast garden combining the south and north botanical sites. • Conservatory with tropical houses and cherry/peony blooms. • The adjacent Sleeping Buddha Temple.

Suggested Route

South gate → conservatory → outdoor gardens → Sleeping Buddha Temple → north gate; allow half a day.

Food & Lodging

Garden café and Haidian dining nearby. Lodging: Haidian hotels.

Travel Tips

1) The garden blooms differently each season, with frequent flower shows and birdwatching events; all seasons are fine to visit, but summer is hot and mosquito-heavy, so it's best avoided. 2) There are two restaurants on site (Qilinxuan and Heyuan); most visitors, however, bring their own snacks and drinks and stroll for an afternoon.

📅 Best Time & Crowds

Best season: Spring (April-May) and Autumn (September-October)

🏮Golden Week alert: May 1-5 and Oct 1-7 are China's biggest travel peaks — top attractions sell out days ahead. Book tickets the moment they open.

Many museums and palaces close on Mondays (e.g. Forbidden City, National Museum). Plan around it.
