1) In spring, wear a light jacket and bring an umbrella; in autumn the day-night temperature swing is large, so dress warmly. 2) Huangyao is in Hezhou, where locals speak Guangxi Baihua ('old Cantonese') but also Mandarin. 3) Many residents dislike being photographed—ask first. 4) Locals are hospitable and may give you small gifts; bring some fruit to exchange. 5) With many trees, bridges, and streams, bring mosquito repellent. 6) Unlike ordinary towns, Huangyao retains a quiet, old-world feel.
