About Jade Dragon Snow Mountain

A sacred snow-capped massif rising north of Lijiang, its thirteen glacier-clad peaks revered by the Naxi people. Cable cars carry visitors up to the glacier park, while Blue Moon Valley pools shimmer turquoise at the base.

Suggested Route

Enter the park, take the Glacier Park cable car first, then visit Blue Moon Valley, then return to Lijiang; allow 5-7 h. Acclimatize and bring oxygen.

Snacks at the base and Lijiang old-town restaurants nearby (Naxi hotpot). Lodging is in Lijiang city, about 15 km away.

Large parking, cable cars, restrooms, shuttle buses, oxygen rental, limited wheelchair access at altitude and a medical post.

Travel Tips

1) Horseback rides up the mountain are not recommended—almost all are traps with little to see. 2) The summit is high-altitude; on windy days rent a down jacket. Don't rent at the eco-bus stop (it's pricier—30 yuan rental + 300 yuan deposit); rent at the 3356 m or 4506 m cableway station instead. Naxi Jingdi Inn lends down jackets for free and can book cableway tickets so you avoid summit queues (though the main cableway still requires queuing). 3) From the parking lot, electric carts run to each sight.

Best season: Year-round (best March-May and September-October)

⏰Many museums and palaces close on Mondays (e.g. Forbidden City, National Museum). Plan around it.
