Travel Tips

1) Yuanyang sits on the Tropic of Cancer at over 1600 m—the climate is mild but mornings/evenings are cool and midday sun is fierce; use sun protection. Dress lightly (T-shirts and shorts work year-round) plus one warm layer. 2) The terraces are a national wetland park—protect the environment and respect local minority customs. 3) All open fires are strictly prohibited. 4) Stay on designated routes; do not climb rocks or cross guardrails. 5) The elderly, young, and frail should be accompanied. 6) Drones and other prohibited items are not allowed.

📅 Best Time & Crowds

Best season: Year-round (best March-May and September-October)

🏮Golden Week alert: May 1-5 and Oct 1-7 are China's biggest travel peaks — top attractions sell out days ahead. Book tickets the moment they open.

Many museums and palaces close on Mondays (e.g. Forbidden City, National Museum). Plan around it.
