About Mount Everest (Everest) Base Camp

The Everest Base Camp region in Shigatse, Tibet, offers visitors close views of Qomolangma, known around the world as Mount Everest, the highest mountain on Earth. Trekkers come for the dramatic Himalayan scenery and the thrill of standing in the mountain's shadow.

Suggested Route

Drive from Shigatse via Tingri to the checkpoint, then the eco-bus to the base-camp photo point; allow a full day (overnight at Tingri/EBC).

Eco-bus, parking, restrooms and tents; extreme altitude, bring oxygen and warm gear.

Travel Tips

1) Traveling to Everest requires a border pass, obtainable at your registered residence or via a travel agency in Lhasa or Shigatse with your ID. 2) The only accommodation near Everest Base Camp is the tent camp 2 km south of Rongbuk Monastery, at 60 yuan/bed.
