About Riyue Mountain Tourism Area

A high mountain pass on the road between Xining and Qinghai Lake, famous as the place where Princess Wencheng is said to have stopped on her journey to Tibet. Twin pavilions and fluttering prayer flags crown the windy ridge.

Highlights

• Historic pass on the Tang–Tibet route where Princess Wencheng supposedly wept. • Sun Pavilion and Moon Pavilion mark the Tibetan/agricultural boundary. • Windy ridge with prayer flags and yak herds.

Suggested Route

Visitor center → Sun & Moon Pavilions → ridge viewpoint → souvenir row; allow 1.5 h.

Yak yogurt and tsampa stalls at the pass; stay in Huangyuan or Xining.
