About Xumishan Tourism Area (Mount Sumeru Grottoes)

Xumishan preserves hundreds of Buddhist rock-cut grottoes carved from the Northern Wei through Tang dynasties. The highlight is a huge seated Buddha carved into the cliff, set among pine-covered hills above a reservoir near Guyuan, Ningxia.

Suggested Route

Visitor center → grotto trail → main Buddha cliff → summit; allow 2-3 h.

Dress modestly. Be quiet inside temple halls. Do not point at Buddha statues. Incense is available on-site.
