About Bayanbulak (Bayinbuluke) Grassland Tourism Area

China's largest alpine grassland and wetland, a high Tianshan plateau grazed by Kazakh and Mongol herders. The winding Kaidu River forms the fabled 'Nine Bends and Eighteen Turns', and Swan Lake shelters wild whooper swans.

Suggested Route

Enter at Bayanbulak town, take the shuttle to the Swan Lake boardwalk, then continue to the Nine-Bend viewing platform for sunset; allow 4-5 h.

Food & Lodging

Stay in Kazakh/Mongol yurts or town guesthouses; try beef/mutton hotpot, milk tea and air-dried meat. Lodging is limited, book ahead in summer.

Facilities

Shuttle buses, parking, restrooms, boardwalks and a visitor center; high altitude (~2,500 m), dress warmly.

Wear comfortable walking shoes. Bring water and sun protection in summer. Check weather conditions before visiting.
