About Sayram Lake Tourism Area

Sayram Lake is a vast, jewel-blue alpine lake set high in the Tianshan Mountains of Xinjiang, ringed by snow-capped peaks and flower-covered meadows. Its clear waters and dramatic mountain backdrop make it one of the region's most breathtaking natural sights.

Highlights

• The 'last tear of the Atlantic': a high alpine lake of astonishing blue ringed by snow mountains. • Wildflowers in June-July and swans.

Suggested Route

Drive the ring road (East Gate to South to West Gate) with photo stops (Lover's Bay, Swan Lake) and sunset; allow half a day.

Limited lakeside yurts; stay in Bole or continue to Yili; bring food and water.

Ring road, parking, restrooms at stops, shuttle and a visitor center.

Travel Tips

1) When horseback riding locally, agree on the full price beforehand, otherwise the ride may run well beyond the stated time and incur extra charges. 2) Sayram Lake is cold—even in summer, nights are chilly; bring extra warm clothing.
