Two dramatic tributary gorges of the Yangtze near Wushan, threaded by narrow rivers with sheer cliffs, misty peaks and clear green water. Small cruise boats pass hanging-coffin burial sites, waterfalls and cliffs where wild macaques can be seen.

Wushan is famously rainy ('Wushan clouds and rain'), so bring an umbrella or raincoat. 3) Food: fresh Yangtze River fish is a must-try. 4) Lodging: ~80 yuan/person in the county town. 5) Transport: take a boat downstream from Fengjie or upstream from Yichang.
