About Fujian Tulou (Yongding & Nanjing) Tourism Area

The Fujian Tulou are massive circular and square earthen dwellings built by Hakka communities, some still inhabited after centuries. This UNESCO World Heritage site preserves fortified, multi-generational homes with thick rammed-earth walls tucked into the mountain valleys of Yongding and Nanjing.

Highlights

Giant earthen Hakka round/square fortresses: Chengqi Lou; the Tianluokeng 'four dishes one soup' cluster; Hekeng and Yunshuiyao; communal clan living.

Suggested Route

Visit the Nanjing Tianluokeng cluster and Yunshuiyao, plus Yongding Chengqi Lou and the Hakka custom museum; allow 1-2 days.

Food & Lodging

Try Hakka stuffed tofu and local dishes; stay in a tulou B&B or Nanjing/Yongding county.

HSR Nanjing Station then bus 6 to Nanjing Tulou visitor center; HSR Longyan Station then bus to Yongding Tulou; ~120 km from Xiamen Gaoqi Airport; no metro.
