About Mount Wutai

Mount Wutai, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is one of the Four Sacred Buddhist Mountains of China and the domain of Manjushri (Bodhisattva of Wisdom). With its five flat-topped peaks reaching 3,061 meters, the mountain hosts 47 monasteries and temples spanning 1,500 years of Buddhist architecture, including the iconic Great White Stupa.

Highlights

One of China's four sacred Buddhist mountains (UNESCO); highlights include the five terrace peaks, the enormous Tayuan Temple white stupa, the Xiantong and Pusaoding temples, and numerous monasteries.

Suggested Route

Base at Taihuai Town, visit the main temples (Xiantong, Tayuan, Pusaoding by cable car); allow 1-2 days for the five terraces.

Try Buddhist vegetarian cuisine and local noodles; stay in Taihuai Town monasteries/guesthouses.

Facilities

Getting There

Nearest HSR: Xinzhou West Station (~80 km) or fly to Wutaishan Airport (~100 km); shuttle bus from Taiyuan (~4h). Private cars restricted inside; use park shuttles. Note: Wutaishan railway station is in Fanchi County, ~54 km away.

Reservation

Advance online reservation required via official WeChat 'Wutaishan Visitor Service Center' / www.wtsykfwzx.com; free admission Mon-Fri still requires reservation.
